The LA Galaxy are reportedly finalizing a deal to acquire FC Dallas midfielder Edwin Cerrillo, with the youngster expected to replace the injured Gaston Brugman.
According to the Athletic, the Galaxy are close to completing a deal that will see the 22-year-old make the move from Texas to California, with Cerrillo already tipped to become a starter under Greg Vanney.
The Galaxy lost Brugman this week due to a knee injury, meaning there is now a need for a defensive midfielder in the squad, something Cerrillo can fill as well as provide cover in the position for years to come.

A product of Dallas’ famed academy, Cerrillo made close to 100 appearances for the MLS side after breaking into the first-team, with the midfielder being praised by Target Scouting for having a ‘tremendous’ first touch.
With the Galaxy starved for midfield talent beyond Riqui Puig, Cerrillo is a welcome addition for the LA giants heading into the second half of the MLS season.
Moreover, the Galaxy have timed the signing well with the transfer likely to be announced later today having been approved by the league before last night’s 1am ET deadline.
Cerrillo could be a huge acquisition for the LA Galaxy

With over 1,500 minutes played this season, Cerrillo is as welcome a midfield addition the Galaxy can wish for this summer, with the youngster adding youth and MLS experience to Vanney’s squad.
Although signed as a replacement for Brugman, there’s a good chance that Cerrillo could one day replace the Uruguayan midfielder as the Galaxy’s staring anchorman if he can hit the ground running in LA.
Signings are needed for the Galaxy if they’re to somehow make a push for the playoffs, and acquiring Cerrillo is a big step in the right direction for the MLS giants this summer.
