Billy Sharp has expressed his delight in scoring on his LA Galaxy debut, with the striker joining the MLS giants as a free-agent this summer.

Speaking to the club’s official Twitter account, the attacker was happy to have started life in California with a win and a goal, with the Galaxy beating the Chicago Fire 3-0.

Sharp joined the Galaxy last week having left Sheffield United at the end of his contract, with the veteran striker kicking off his MLS career in impressive style.

The Galaxy got back to life in MLS with a bang, and Sharp was pleased with his display. The forward said: “Very happy to be here and I’m very happy for this opportunity.

“My kids and wife were here to see me score my first MLS goal, and hopefully, there’s many more to come. We need more wins, but I’m happy to be here.”

Goals have been a major concern for the Galaxy this season, with Javier Hernandez’s injury a major reason behind the LA giant’s problems in front of goal.

And Sharp could remedy this issue this year, with the English attacker’s experience and abilities something that the Galaxy have been missing greatly.

With a goal on his debut, Sharp getting off the mark early is a big confidence boost to the forward’s time in MLS, with the Galaxy a side who are in need of a consistent goalscoring striker.
